Romeo and Juliet is one of the most beloved story ballets in the world, based on the famous play by William Shakespeare. The ballet tells the tragic tale of two young lovers from rival families in Verona whose secret romance is ultimately destroyed by hatred, misunderstanding, and fate. While several choreographers have adapted the story for dance, the most influential version was created by Leonid Lavrovsky to the sweeping score of Sergei Prokofiev.
